Hyeongwon Son's story: Finding her own way, then helping others find theirs

After navigating her own employment journey, Hyeongwon now helps others do the same. Here's how she uses her experience, and Beam Notes, to help participants feel heard.

After starting out in programming and later moving into project management, Hyeongwon spent time figuring out where she wanted her career to take her.

Along the way, she experienced employment support firsthand and navigated the same system many of the people she now supports rely on today.

Now an Employment Adviser at Reed in Partnership, Hyeongwon brings that experience into every conversation.

“I’ve been able to have the experience of what it’s like going to the job centre, going to the appointments. Now I can use that experience to help others.”

What her day-to-day looks like now

Hyeongwon uses Beam Notes during participant sessions, on quick calls between meetings, and any conversation where something important might be said.

"I always have Beam Notes on. Even if it's a two-minute conversation, there are things I might have missed, and Beam Notes picks it up for me."

That means she can stay present in the appointment itself, then set aside time afterwards to go through what was captured.

“At the end of the day, I just do my admin and go back through my notes and see what needs following up. It reminds me of things I said I'd do.”

It's a habit that helps her keep track of commitments that might otherwise slip between back-to-back sessions.

Building trust from the first meeting

In initial appointments, Hyeongwon shows participants the notes Beam has produced, so they can see what's been recorded and correct anything that needs changing.

“I make sure to share the notes… and then see if they agree with everything.”

That transparency makes a difference for participants who may feel unsure about being recorded.

“When they see the results, they’re like, ‘Oh, ok.’ It helps to build rapport, especially in the first meeting.”

This turns a compliance process into a moment of connection. Participants can see that what they said has been captured clearly, and that nothing is being hidden from them.

Giving participants her full attention

The value isn't just in the record it leaves behind. It's in what happens in the room while she isn't taking notes.

"I like to have eye contact when I speak to people. Beam Notes lets me do that."

Hyeongwon can fully focus on the person in front of her, knowing she can come back to an accurate record afterwards.

She can give participants her full attention, and that's often what makes them feel confident enough to take their next step into work.

See how Beam Notes could give your team back that same time and focus.
