Built for Connect to Work, shaped by Connect to Work teams

Beam has its own team delivering Connect to Work in Southwark. Here's how they're using Beam's tools every day, and how their feedback shapes what we build next.

Matt Peverall joined Beam as an employment coach, working with people preparing to leave prison, helping them rebuild their lives and find work quickly. It’s some of the most demanding casework there is, and the people he supported needed his full attention.

Like many frontline workers, Matt knew what it felt like to choose between listening properly and writing everything down. The admin was essential, but it often got in the way of the conversation.

That’s why Beam built tools to take that admin off caseworkers’ plates, giving them more time to focus on the people they are there to support.

Today, Matt leads Beam's Connect to Work delivery in Southwark. His team delivers Lot 2 of the borough's programme, working through community groups, faith organisations, housing estates and family hubs to reach people who might otherwise miss out on support.

Many of the people they work with are coming out of homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or facing other significant barriers to employment. They need, and deserve, a caseworker's full attention.

Here’s how they use Beam Notes to deliver that support every day.

Delivering Connect to Work with Beam Notes

Beam Notes is a secure AI tool that listens to conversations and turns them into structured records that fit the work already being done, whether that's case notes, action plans or vocational profiles.

That means caseworkers can focus on the person across the table instead of the laptop between them.

"Members come to us with a mix of challenges and aspirations," Matt says. "Capturing that information whilst being present would be impossible without Beam Notes."

The people Matt's team supports have often had difficult experiences with services before. Feeling listened to, without constant interruptions for note-taking, can help build trust from the very first meeting.

The time saved makes a difference too.

"Saving the time on admin has allowed the team to focus on helping individuals start work," says Matt. "We're already seeing the benefits, with many members attending interviews and securing work faster."

Beam Notes also gives managers a clearer picture of what's happening across every case.

Every conversation is captured, with transcripts, and key themes all in one place. That makes it much easier to review casework, support staff and check fidelity without digging through incomplete notes.

"On a busy day with back-to-back meetings, important details can get missed. With Beam Notes, we get high-quality notes and a transcription, which is really useful when it comes to fidelity."

Matt's team doesn't just use Beam Notes, they help shape the tool

Because Beam delivers services itself, the people using Beam Notes every day sit alongside the people building it. So their feedback becomes part of the product.

When Matt's team explained how Connect to Work conversations actually unfold, we built templates for vocational profiles that turn first meetings into structured, evidence-ready records.

When members wanted access to the full conversation behind a summary, we added one-click transcript copying.

And when frontline workers said they often remembered important follow-up points after a meeting had ended, we added dictation so those thoughts could be captured straight away.

We know fidelity is the biggest pain point for Connect to Work teams, so we're building it into the tool directly. That means caseworkers can see how a conversation is already evidencing fidelity, rather than reconstructing that evidence after the fact.

Connect to Work teams everywhere face the same challenge. They need to meet programme requirements, keep high-quality records and spend as much time as possible helping people into work.

Matt's team is no different.

The difference is that the tools they use have been shaped by people doing exactly the same job.

"Delivering this contract is hard. Doing it with tools shaped by people who do the same job makes it a lot easier."
