I grew up in Tigray in Ethiopia. I was a trader and my family had a small shop. I also spent some time doing computer maintenance and other general IT work. That all changed when I came to the UK in 2005 and I became homeless.
I spent almost 17 years without a home in this country, with much of that time spent on the streets or staying with friends. It was in 2020 that I finally managed to find some temporary housing, but I still have a problem because I don't have full settled status. I need to find a job so I can move somewhere more permanent.
In the future I would like to become a role model in my local Tigray community. I'd love to have my own little restaurant or internet cafe where people can come together as that is one of my biggest passions.
Driving is something I've done a lot in my home country. I used to drive trucks for a few years. I've also spent a lot of time working in construction as a labourer and traffic marshal. I know there's a shortage right now in the UK so I'd love to do driving as a career. I'm also excited to find a job in the meantime before I'm fully qualified.
