I like making customers happy by creating and building things for them. Seeing their faces when they're happy with the job I have done - this is the best thing of all.
I became homeless in October 2018, after I lost my job. I got help from a south London-based Church at the time, who got me in contact with the StreetLink outreach team. From there, I was referred to St Mungo's, and I'm keen to keep moving forward.
I've been interested in construction since I left school, and have done some bricklaying before. So I'm excited to learn the trade properly, and to meet new people. I also have years of experience as a carpenter (as pictured below!) - so training in bricklaying will let me combine the two trades fully, giving me more opportunities. Having another skill opens doors.
Then, I'm looking forward to getting back to work - to having some money, and getting back my self esteem. When you walk away from something you've built, come back, and see what you've done - you think, wow, did I do that? You amaze yourself.
And in two years, I will be well on my feet, doing a job I am happy with and taking my kids on holidays. I'll be getting my life back on track.
