I have always loved problem solving and getting stuck into challenges. When I was in school I used to get so much satisfaction from working out the right answer to maths problems! Later on in my life, I got the opportunity to use different databases and software. I enjoyed using them to put some of those maths problems into an organised system. I realise now that I was born to do accounting!
I became homeless 4 years ago after an injury left me unable to work for some time. I began living in a hostel where things didn’t get off to a good start. The time off was taking its toll and I was battling depression. As much as I tried to get back on my feet and attend job interviews, my poor mental and physical health held me back every time. The turning point came when I started to engage with physiotherapy and I realised that there were people out there who could help. I also started to have counselling and suddenly found that I was being supported in all those areas of my life where I desperately needed it.
Fast forward to now, I couldn’t be more excited about the future. With the help I’ve had over the last few years, I’ve managed to complete my Level 1 and 2 accounting qualifications! It’s been a tough journey but I’m proud of myself and I don’t want to stop there! I know doing my level 3 will be a challenge but thinking about the opportunities it will bring is what keeps me motivated. Moving into my own place and finally having financial independence will no longer be a problem I have to solve!
