I'm looking to do this training because I want to move forward with my life. I have become drug free and wish to stay that way. The best way for me to do this is by getting work to fill my time productively. I've already done a starter course in tiling with St Mungo's and enjoyed it. I found it quite easy so I'm keen to take my skills to the next level to enable me to look for work.
I've been out of the working world for quite a few years. Way back, I was given some strong pain killers for a back injury. When my prescription was suddenly stopped, I fell into addiction. I then split up with my partner and I had to leave her house. Left with nowhere to go I became homeless. I spent a long time rough sleeping. It can be difficult to get help when you are stuck in that routine. Then I quit drugs and found myself with a lot of spare time. After over three years of living outside, I was offered a room by the street outreach team and I accepted.
I'm still at the hostel but am keen to move on as soon as possible. I feel I'm in a new stage of my life now and a steady job will help me on the road to my own place. I'm looking forward to the small things - to be paying my own bills, and having the price of a cup of coffee in my pocket for whenever I want it.
