I’m determined to move on from where I am today. I first did my accountancy diploma over 20 years ago! I really want to make progress now, both academically and financially. I really believe that by achieving my childhood goals, I can also inspire my 9 year old son that he should never give up on his dreams and aspirations in life either.
Last April, my partner and I were living together. We were renting a room, as we couldn’t afford anything else. But the landlord didn’t want so many of us living in a small space. At that point, my partner left us and I was on my own with the children. I had to approach the council for help with our housing. We have somewhere more suitable now, but it is still temporary accommodation.
Just to be back in a classroom and learning again will be the best thing about the course. What I like about accounting, is it's just me and the numbers. I like that. I want a job that exercises my mind and solves problems. A lady in my church is an accountant and I really admire her. I hope she’ll be able to mentor me and maybe also help with any difficult homework!
Being able to go to work and provide for my boys will put a big smile on my face. I'll be able to pay all my bills on my own and take good care of my boys. I’d love to buy a bicycle for my son - he will love that!
